Herpy.nu will close down in January 2018 - will be replaced by something new and better.

Herpy has had a good 13 year run and will never be forgotten for those of us who experienced it. Sadly the site is today unappealing and is no longer fit for the audience of 2018, and years of smear campaigns have given us a reputation that has been hard to shake. We therefore made the choice to close the site and move on to a brighter future. While the forums will be archived as a memory of times of past greatness, new funds have been raised and new admins have been recruited to start working on a entire new community far away from Bad Dragon and any association with that company. The gallery will remain operational in the meantime. You can follow me on Twitter for further developments. We also have a Discord server which has become the heart of the community. If you wish to join it, send a PM to Valcyrie.

Herpy have always been my little lovechild since I joined over a decade ago. But he grew up, and as he has aged with dignity its time for his hatchling to take over. A fresh start for a new generation in a new era.

Kind regards,
Valcyrie

Hybrid Species

Post by Mallis » July 7th, 2016, 7:17 am

I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread on hybrid species of things we all love. Is there a type of species you like and have maybe made up a character on based on such species? What cool combination ideas do you think would make for an interesting species?

For myself I have my character Clanara the Batvern. While she may not be the most original idea, I love her to death. She is basically an oversized bat-wyvern dragoness. She has ice elemental abilites, summoning ice to form at desired areas and foes.

Here is some pictures I have of her so far.

I think that this is a good idea. I myself enjoy seeing hybrids of different species. I wonder what dragons could be combined with, everyone loves dragons! Maybe one day I'll have a hybrid character, one that I love very much =3

o:
I love hybrid species~ (especially any that have a feline mixed in >.=.>)
I don't know how many of the Herpy community know, but my sona, Semura, is a hybrid (technically of feline/wolf/dragon, but I guess I somehow forgot to add more wolf-like features to her in the final concept ;.=.; )

Here's what she looks like https://www.furaffinity.net/view/20408149/
Apparently she's bigger than what a lot of people would have thought (I probably sized her wrong anyway. I'm terrible with measurements .__. )

Oooh, good topic, Mal!

Well, my favourite dragon hybrid would be me, haha - a winged naga-like dragoness, hatched from a Cold Lake Serpent (classic Sea Serpent body, no limbs or wings) mother and Western Cragg Drake (classic 'western' style dragon, four limbs and wings). It's an interesting combo - can swim/breathe underwater, fly/glide, and sneak/slither along silently on land.

I'm thinking about making a scursona (scaly/fur-sona, haha) someday. I'm going with a either dragon-X-albino cheetah, or a dragon-X-siamese cat, just for the heck of it. Haven't thought of a name for her/them yet, but when I do, I'll draw them and post the result ;p

I think she/they'll be kinda slinky, and definitely have more 'paw'-like feet than I usually draw :3

I've just recently created a hybrid-character (with the help of Semura ^-^) who is a mixture of dragon and gryphon.

Here's a picture of Vynd Alteor: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20496191/

Dragons are by far my favorite species, and then gryphons would be my next favorite. I think their genes mix well together, seeing how they're both creatures of flight, and I do very much like how my character turned out. ^-^

I like wolf-dragon mixes... don't have a favorite.

I also like kobold and lizardfolk, but mixed together they just seem... redundant. ... it's like mixing a pemerainian with a larger dog... it's just a strange looking mutt

Edit : I've found something that just made me fall in love!

If i remember correctly, Hybrids no matter what they are make up a high percentage of the fandom at large, followed by canines/lupine/vulpine, dragons and felines, which make 90% of the all the species therein said fandom. I quite like hybrids myself
I myself have a Dragon Wolf hybrid anthro character, Kadence. & The Gryphon by technicality is a hybrid by nature of physical interpretation, half Feline, half Avian. From there, has been gryphons have become pretty much a mix of avian and mammal common feline and canine species.
