Herpy.nu is now closed and archived - will be replaced by something new and better.

Herpy has had a good 13 year run and will never be forgotten for those of us who experienced it. Sadly the site is today unappealing and is no longer fit for the audience of 2018. The gallery will remain operational until further notice. You can follow me on Twitter for further developments. We also have a Discord server which has become the heart of the community. If you wish to join it, send me a PM over Twitter.

Kind regards,

Latest post of the previous page:

I suggest starting temporary thread with polls. I would definitely cross 5. and I would prefer 3. ... 2. would be fine too.

I would go with 1 - just for people who are new to the whole thing (like me) although I accept it could get boring if you've played a bit.
People are like dragons. They can be dangerous, but they can be friendly. But whatever you are, take flight into the blue abyss of endless possibility!

Well, I think 1 or 3... (Although if other options were considered, Sci-Fantasy would be gladly accepted) . I do agree with Aracth'nil that perhaps a classic High Fantasy would be best since there are likely quite a few people that haven't played before, and High Fantasy is the 'classic' D&D theme. Also, since the books are quite difficult to get these days, I could post a list of the PDFs if that would be helpful.

www.d20srd.org Is my go to quick reference on D&D stuff, but it does rely on some prior knowledge. The pdf's are readily available with some googling. I would suggest against -all- the supplemental material for new players. There's a lot of great stuff in the basic edition without adding in additional base and prestige classes. That being said, posting the pdf for PHB, DMG, and maybe MM 1&2 would be good.

The Draconomicon is great, and while highly appropriate, might be too much addition. Unless Val wants to run a dragon-themed campaign, then it might be necessary reading.
