Herpy.nu will close down in January 2018 - will be replaced by something new and better.

Herpy has had a good 13 year run and will never be forgotten for those of us who experienced it. Sadly the site is today unappealing and is no longer fit for the audience of 2018, and years of smear campaigns have given us a reputation that has been hard to shake. We therefore made the choice to close the site and move on to a brighter future. While the forums will be archived as a memory of times of past greatness, new funds have been raised and new admins have been recruited to start working on a entire new community far away from Bad Dragon and any association with that company. The gallery will remain operational in the meantime. You can follow me on Twitter for further developments. We also have a Discord server which has become the heart of the community. If you wish to join it, send a PM to Valcyrie.

Herpy have always been my little lovechild since I joined over a decade ago. But he grew up, and as he has aged with dignity its time for his hatchling to take over. A fresh start for a new generation in a new era.

Kind regards,
Valcyrie

Automatical logout

Post by gryphon » July 6th, 2016, 8:44 am

Also noticed when you leave forum and come back again, you will have to login again. Even if you chose "Remember me". Checked in Safari and Chrome
P.S. I think it would be nice to add thread here something like "Minor forum's bugs".

I'm not 100% sure but I think the "remember me" button just ensures you won't get logged out if you are inactive for too long. Don't take my word for it though, it may very well be just a broken button.

I replicated the issue. Here is browser console output.

Code: Select all

parseSubmissionURL: Parsing "herpy.nu/".
The value does not look like a structured URL.
NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIURI.host] contentPolicy.js:182:0
NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIURI.host] contentPolicy.js:182:0
Seems like there;s some java script problem. Oh the ever reliable java.

Code: Select all

Navigated to http://herpy.nu/
2Navigated to http://herpy.nu/index.php?sid=d686496f74bb07827db025706ef2b243
Navigated to http://herpy.nu/
Navigated to http://herpy.nu/index.php?sid=a2ae893a9a7839a662317fd77ac9aebb
Tested the same in Chrome. Now I don't think the java is at fault. Herpy does not remeber the session or does not restore it when clean herpy.nu is loaded or when the clean herpy.nu address is loaded it always sets a new session.

In Edge there is something about host disabled navigation caching, sounds related.

Yep, I am in Google chrome and I find the every time I leave a page I get logged out that including on the same thread, this includes back spacing ion the browser as well. As a result I have to sign in each time I want to post to a thread; this will get tiresome after awhile.

First things first : the session IDs "sid=XXXX" need to go away from the URLs, and into http cookies.
With a bit of luck, it's just a matter of checking your php.ini. Try turning on "session.use_only_cookies", see what happens.
But in any case, you'd be wasting your time even looking into this bug while that thing is still in there

I'm getting this too. I have multiple login keys for the same IP address in my profile if it helps.

Just bumping this on top, and pointing out this quirk is almost certainly a red flag for search engines

Edit:
Seems like having the SID within the URL actually was still supported, but not required! And since I was using the bookmarked Link I never noticed.
Forget what I said.
